CHESS

How to play Chess : The players sit facing each other with a white square of the

board at each player's right. The diagram shows how the pieces are placed at

the beginning of a game.

How the pieces move and capture : The player who conducts the white pieces -

know wimply as "White" always makes the first move. "Blue" responds and

the game continues with the two players moving alternately. Only one piece

may be moved each turn except for castling, which involves two pieces:

To capture, you move your pieces to a square occupied by one of your

opponent's pieces The opponent's piece just because it is possible to do so.

You may never move a piece to a square already occupied by one of our own pieces.

The king can move or capture one square in any direction The queen can move

or capture any number of squares horizontally, Vertically, or diagonally

if the path is unobstructed. The rook can move or capture any number of

squares vertically, horizontally if the path is unobstructed.

The bishop can move or capture diagonally any number of squares in either

direction if the path is unobstructed.

The knight moves in the "L" Pattern indicated. The knight is the only piece that may

lump over the other pieces. Note that the knight always moves from

the dark square to a light square or vice-versa.

CHECKERS

checkers and the other player having 12 black checkers, which each player

places on the three rows of section nearest to him. The board should always

be placed so that the double white corner is on the right. The player who selects

to have the black side moves first. All moves are made diagonally forward,

one square at a time, In alternate moves by each player, an opponent's

pieces are taken by jumping over them to the vacant square beyond.

All pieces taken are removed from the board. Several pieces may be taken

of one time, but men may only be moved forward. If a player falls to take

his opponent's man when there is an opportunity, the opponent can remove

the player's piece from the board. when a player's men reach the far

end of the board they become "Kings" and permitted top move either backwards

or forwards, and such are very powerful pieces.

The object of the game is for one player to remove all the opponent's pieces
